The New York City Cancer Collaborative (NYCCC)

The New York City Cancer Collaborative (NYCCC) is a partnership of the offices of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) from academic and hospital cancer centers and supporting organizations in New York City. Partners include:

  • Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University
  • Mount Sinai
  • Einstein/Montefiore
  • NYU Langone
  • Memorial Sloan Kettering
  • Weill Cornell
  • NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
  • New York City Community-based organizations

Members of the NYCCC work together to share data from their individual community health needs assessments and to share their strategies and materials on educational outreach with other members.


NYC and NYS Department of Health (DOH) Collaborations

COE has several collaborations with the NYC and NYS Department of Health (DOH). We are present on the Steering Committee for the 2018-2023 NYS Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan, comprised of 7 priority areas on the cancer care continuum, which serves as a framework for the NYC DOH Consortium. We are also present in the NYC Cancer Consortium. 

Cancer & the Environment     

Several members of our team lead the Environmental Carcinogens Action Team, which includes 31 members from organizations across NY state that works to reduce the burden of cancer diagnoses from known environmental carcinogens through data monitoring and engagement with elected officials and NYS Assembly members. 

On June 21, 2023, researchers, patients, and community advocates came together for the COE's first annual Cancer and the Environment Symposium. In a series of talks, experts from the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine's Meyer Cancer Center discussed the state of the science of environmental carcinogenesis and the role physicians, nurses, community leaders, and public health practitioners play in engaging the public on environmental chemicals and cancer risk reduction.
