Our Approach and Expertise
Make an Appointment
Our team of dedicated access representatives is here to help you make an appointment with the specialists that you need.
The Columbia Thyroid Center has extraordinary experience treating thyroid cancer.
Thyroid cancer is one of the most common, most survivable types of cancer. Our endocrine surgeons do more thyroid-related operations than any other surgeons in the area. All of the available research has shown that the more experienced your surgeon, the better your outcome.
We’re known for:
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Our doctors are experts at treating your thyroid cancer with minimally invasive surgical techniques. These procedures result in faster recovery times and smaller scars.
A Dedicated Thyroid Cancer Team
Your care team includes surgeons, endocrinologists, oncologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists. We’ll work with you to create a care plan that’s based on your cancer’s fingerprint and your own needs and preferences.
Active Surveillance Program
Best practices for thyroid cancer have changed. Now, instead of immediately removing a low-risk tumor, we may be able to just keep a watchful eye on it. We monitor it for growth or changes by monitoring your symptoms and using regular ultrasounds. This way, we’re only intervening if you really need it. And, if you do eventually need surgery, we may only need to remove the diseased part of your thyroid instead of the entire gland.
Thyroid Biopsy Clinic
We offer same-day appointments for this small procedure to take a small tissue sample to diagnose and stage thyroid cancer. Your pathologist will look at your results in your room. This on-site cytology service allows us to make sure we have enough tissue to give you a diagnosis. Less than 1% of people will need another biopsy because of this service compared to over 10% of people who have biopsies done somewhere else.

Interventional Endocrinology Program
Interventional endocrinology involves the use of noninvasive procedures like radiofrequency ablations (RFA) and alcohol ablations to treat thyroid nodules. Our Interventional Endocrinology Program is one of the few in the nation offering these safe state-of-the-art techniques that can potentially eliminate the need for an operation.
