Why I Ride: Gary Schwartz, MD

I hope you had a great summer! I spent it logging a lot of cycling time to gear up for Velocity: Columbia’s Ride to End Cancer, which will take place on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.

As you’ve probably heard, through Velocity we are raising vital funds to support cancer research and care at Columbia’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. I’m riding because I want to make a difference.

Columbia offers patients the most comprehensive and innovative cancer care in the nation. We are leaders in immuno-oncology, cell therapy, and precision medicine. The basic and clinical research efforts which form the foundation of our transformative cancer program are only possible with your help. The proceeds from Velocity truly allow us to make the “impossible” possible.

There’s still time to participate as a rider or volunteer. Volunteer opportunities include everything from supporting on-site logistics and our cheering squad to helping with plans for our Finish Line Festival and serving as a bike marshal.

The Velocity team is also offering a special promotion:Sign up tomorrow through Oct. 1 with the promo code CURIDE to get 50% off your registration. Visit the Velocity Ride website to learn more and sign up today.

I look forward to seeing you on Oct. 6. With your support, we’ll raise the funds we need to accelerate our groundbreaking cancer research while providing the best patient care.
