Overview

Dr. Lewis Silverman is the Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Stem Cell Transplantation and Professor of Pediatrics practicing at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Silverman is a graduate of Harvard University (AB, Biology) and Harvard Medical School. He completed his pediatric residency at Boston Children's Hospital and fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Boston Children's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Research

For over 20 years, Dr. Silverman has led the DFCI ALL Consortium, which conducts PI-initiated, multi-institutional clinical trials in children and adolescents with acute lymphoblastic leukemia; he also holds several leadership roles in the Children's Oncology Group, the NCI-sponsored clinical trials cooperative group for pediatric cancer. In addition, he currently serves on the NCI Pediatric Leukemia and Lymphoma Steering Committee, which evaluates and prioritizes concepts for trials in pediatric hematologic malignancies to be conducted by the NCI’s NCTN cooperative groups, and has been a long-standing Editorial Board member of the NCI Pediatric Oncology PDQ website, which provides comprehensive, evidence-based cancer summaries for health-care professionals. He has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Blood, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet Oncology, JAMA Oncology and the New England Journal of Medicine.
