Nextgen Sequencing

  • Sample Preparation: At the beginning of your project, we recommend that you contact us to determine the sequencing approach that will best address your needs. Protocols for different next-generation sequencing applications have different minimum requirements for sample preparation. Before submitting your samples, please also visit the Columbia Genome Center’s website to learn about sample requirements.
  • Sample Submission: To submit samples, follow instructions and fill out the form at the Columbia Genome Center link.
  • Sample Labeling: In order to avoid any confusion, all samples must be labeled clearly. No two projects from the same customer should have identical sample identification numbers. All documents, emails, sample names, and data that you send through our submission form or by email must be HIPAA compliant.
  • Sample Size: There is no minimum sample size. We welcome sequencing projects of all sizes. We also encourage pilot projects to test an experiment prior to performing a more extensive run.
  • Turnaround: Over the past year, our average turnaround time for RNA-seq has been 25 days from the time we receive your samples and they are ready for sequencing, and the time we deliver the data. You are welcome to email us to check on the status of your sequencing project.

We do not have any express or priority packages. If you need anything urgently, please contact us and we can try to accommodate you to the best of our abilities. However, we cannot guarantee availability as instrument time is fixed.

High-Throughput Screening

A rigorous standard of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) is maintained. Each instrument is routinely monitored to ensure that the volumes dispensed are those that are requested. In addition, each assay plate contains controls to track the overall quality of the assay.

We welcome the involvement of investigators and their lab members throughout the process of preparing assays, particularly graduate students and postdoctoral scientists who are interested in learning more about the principles of high-throughput screening.
