Nextgen Sequencing Instrumentation
Illumina HiSeq 4000: Offering ultra-high throughput sequencing, the patterned flowcell technology delivers up to 1.5 Tb of data in 3.5 days.The Genomics SR operates one HiSeq 4000 sequencer.
Illumina HiSeq 2500: Using Illumina v4 chemistry, it can generate up to 1 Tb of data in 6 days. The Genomics SR operates one HiSeq 2500 sequencer.
Illumina NextSeq: The NextSeq 500 is a flexible and efficient desktop sequencer that offers powerful high-throughput sequencing capabilities. Designed with the individual laboratory in mind, it is the first high-throughput desktop sequencer to offer exome, transcriptome, and whole genome sequencing in a compact package. It offers a variety of flow cell configurations including up to 800 million paired-end reads and up to 400 million single reads. The Columbia Genome Center offers self-service access to the NextSeq 500 for experienced Columbia University researchers. The Genomics SR operates two NextSeq 500 sequencers.
Illumina MiSeq: The MiSeq is a benchtop sequencer delivering 15-20 million reads, offering faster turnaround time and customized work flows. The Genomics SR operates one MiSeq.
High-throughput Screening Instrumentation
Automated Technology Platforms
PerkinElmer cell::explorer: This automated system uses a robotic arm to transport microtiter plates from one module to another. It also includes sophisticated instrumentation and software to limit variance among wells during assay preparation and plate incubation.
Tecan Freedom EVO 200: The EVO 200 is a robotic platform that includes units for managing microplates, liquid handling, incubation, and compound library hosting. Also integrated on the platform is the Tecan Infinite 200 microplate reader, a high-performance reader that is optimized for reading fluorescence, luminescence, and absorbance.
Hamilton Microlab STAR: The STAR is our primary instrument for functional genomics assays. Enclosed in a BSL2 hood, it enables shRNA and cDNA screening assays in a safe environment. It is equipped with a 96-well head and an 8-channel pipette. The system also has an integrated Tecan Infinite 200 microplate reader.
Microplate Reading Technologies
PerkinElmer EnVision 2104 Multilabel Microplate Reader: The EnVision 2104 is a benchtop dual-detector plate reader integrated into the cell::explorer high-throughput screening platform. It is designed to be fast, sensitive, and versatile. It can accommodate a wide range of mirror modules and filters to enable a variety of imaging approaches.
Tecan Infinite 2000: This high-performance microplate reader is integrated into the Freedom EVO 200 and Microlab STAR systems. It utilizes filter-based excitation and emission, and its detectors are optimized for the requirements of fluorescence, luminescence, and absorbance.
High-content Microscopy Instrumentation
GE Healthcare IN Cell Analyzer 2000: This instrument is equipped with a large CCD camera (resolution 2048 X 2048 pixels) that is capable of whole-well imaging in 96- or 384-well microplates. The IN Cell 2000 has several imaging modes, including image restoration and deconvolution. This enables users to get confocal-like quality in a high-throughput experimental setting. The instrument is also configured with environmental and temperature control and liquid handling modules to conduct real-time live cell imaging. The IN Cell 2000 is integrated with Cytomat microplate managing stations via a Mitsubishi robotic manipulator enabling high-throughput screens of up to 180 microplates per set. IN Cell Investigator high content image analysis software is also integrated into this platform.
Medium-throughput Molecular Screening Instrumentation
The Genomics SR provides access to dedicated state-of-the-art equipment for medium throughput biological assays. These instruments allow investigators to perform sophisticated, multiplexed measurement of gene and protein expression, allowing for direct, quantitative measurement of mRNA, miRNA, and protein abundance.
