Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics Major Themes

The program members of the program come from seven basic-science departments, four clinical departments, and two public-health departments, and their work revolves around three major themes.

  • Genomic Plasticity — exploring how cancer disrupts DNA repair mechanisms and encourages instability
  • Epigenetics — probing cancer-related changes in the chemical modifications of DNA and chromatin that can alter the expression of genes
  • Cell division — tracking the ways that cancer alters the cell cycle, including the checkpoints that ordinarily ensure faithful replication and segregation of DNA
