Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy

Charles Drake, MD, PhD, associate director for clinical research at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, was a featured speaker at the 2018 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), a prominent conference that brought together worldwide experts in oncology and cancer research. In a new video by the Cancer Research Institute, Dr. Drake speaks on a panel about the exciting new advances and topics discussed at ASCO relating to immunotherapy. He commented on some of the game-changing progress in immunotherapy; for instance, the idea that if immunotherapy is given before surgery it can lead to great outcomes in certain tumor types. “We actually saw in bladder cancer that as few as two cycles of immunotherapy before surgery can lead to pathologic complete responses,” he said.
